Our Heroes Fund defines a first responder as a trained person who is designated or responsible to immediately respond to the scene of an accident or an emergency. Common professions include but are not limited to: law enforcement, public and educational security officers, firefighters, emergency medical providers, and Department of Defense personnel working in one of the careers mentioned above or attached to special operations, tactical or anti-terrorist component. Recipients of goods, services or funds are selected without bias on the basis of age, race, ethnicity, color, creed, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, and marital or socioeconomic status. Final decision on qualification remains at the discretion of the board of directors.
